Harry Hay



Harry Hay is known as the ‘the Father of Gay Liberation’. A radical intellectual, he founded the Mattachine Society—one of the most influential gay associations before the Stonewall riot. He studied at Stanford from 1930 to 1932.

Will Roscoe is an award-winning author and was a friend of Harry Hay. He edited Radically Gay: Gay Liberation in the Words of its Founder.


Joey Cain is a historian and was a friend of Harry Hay. He curated ‘Radically Gay: The Life of Harry Hay’ at San Francisco Public Library.
